Abstract

The implementation of online learning for almost 2 years has an impact on students in English class, namely students' anxiety in speaking English. After the implementation of offline learning is re-opened, students are still carried away by the atmosphere of online learning. Their speaking ability is low due to the lack of practice speaking during the implementation of online learning. They pronounce words or sentences in English with hesitation, worry and nervousness so that the words or sentences spoken do not match the correct pronunciation. This study aims to find out the answers to the formulation of the problem. This thesis discusses students' speaking anxiety in English class after online learning in class IX MTs Al-Hidayah Langon Jepara. In this final assignment, the researcher has three research problems, namely knowing the impact of online learning on students' speaking ability, the factors that cause students to experience speaking anxiety after online learning, and the ways students deal with speaking anxiety in English class. The subjects of this study were students of class IX C from MTs Al-Hidayah Langon Jepara. In this study, researcher used a qualitative research methods and a case study approach. There were 2 types of data sources in this study, namely primary data sources and secondary data sources. Researcher used primary data by involving students and English teacher. Meanwhile, documents and archives were secondary data source in this research. The data validity test used credibility test namely technique triangulation and sources triangulation. This research used three of data collection technique namely observation, interview, and documentation so that the data obtained from interviews checked by observation and documentation. Meanwhile, the sources of information were students and English teacher so that researcher checked the information obtained from students and English teacher. In this research, the data analysis process based on the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing/verification. This study succeeded in obtaining findings, namely: 1) the impact of online learning on students' speaking ability which include three components of speaking English, namely pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. Their speaking skills on these three components weakened after online learning. 2) the factors that cause students' speaking anxiety in speaking English after online learning include communication fear, fear of negative evaluation, and exam anxiety. They tend not to be confident with their English speaking skills. 3) students' ways of controlling their speaking anxiety in English class were preparation, relaxation, and positive thinking. They used these ways to ease their anxiety when they speak English.
