Abstract

Listening is one of the most important skills because this skill is needed in daily activities, especially when interacting in the learning process, especially in English subjects. However, it does not rule out the possibility that there are still many students who experience difficulties in listening comprehension due to lack of motivation in the learning process. Departing from these problems, finally an idea was generated to increase student motivation in listening learning through a learning strategy that uses English Islamic Songs as a learning medium to make it easier for students to increase motivation to learn listening comprehension. This study was conducted with the aim of knowing whether Islamic songs in English are effective or not to increase student motivation in learning listening comprehension. In this study, researchers used quantitative methods. The subject of this study was a seventh grade student of MTS NU Assalam Kudus. The study was conducted in class VII, consisting of classes A and B, class A as an experimental class with a sample number of 32 students and B as a control class with a sample number of 33 students. Before the research was carried out, the instrument was tested first with validity tests and reliability tests, after the two tests were carried out, the questionnaires used in the study were valid and reliable. The results of this study showed that Islamic songs in English were effective in increasing student motivation in listening comprehension of seventh grade students of MTS NU Assalam Kudus. These results were proven by using t test testing, with the results showing changes in students' scores before and after being given Islamic song treatment in English to increase motivation, entering the significant category with an increase of 19.25.
