Abstract

The Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbud RI) launched the “Merdeka Belajar” Curriculum during the pandemic. The concept of "Merdeka Belajar" is a new policy to improve national education. This thesis discussed the Implementation of Merdeka Curriculum in Public and Private Islamic Junior High School. The research objectives of the research were: (1) to find out the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in public and private Islamic Junior High Schools, (2) to find out the obstacles encountered while implementing the Merdeka Curriculum in both public and private Islamic junior high schools, and (3) to provide solutions to problems found during the implementation process of the Merdeka Curriculum. This research is a type of field research with a qualitative approach, where the researcher directly conduct at MTs N 1 Kudus and MTs NU Banat Kudus. The researcher used data collection techniques through interviews with English teachers and Vice Principal of Curriculum of MTs N 1 Kudus and MTs NU Banat Kudus. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion and verification. This research snowed that (1) the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at MTs N 1 Kudus and MTs NU Banat Kudus follows the stages of implementing the Merdeka Curriculum from the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud RI) and then adapts it to the school conditions. There are 3 stages in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum, namely planning, implementation, and assessments. (2) The obstacles at the MTs N 1 Kudus were in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum properly and correctly, implementing differentiation, making Learning Outcomes (CP), Flow of Learning Objectives (ATP), and learning modules, another obstacle is the allocation of lesson time for the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5). The obstacles at MTs NU Banat Kudus were in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum properly and correctly, teachers need concrete examples in implementing the differentiation, implementing the student-centered learning. (3) The solutions to overcome the obstacles experienced at MTs N 1 Kudus conducts training and workshops for teachers, the government should increase teaching hours for teachers involved in the teaching and learning process in P5 subjects in SIMPATIKA. The solutions to overcome the obstacles experienced at MTs NU Banat Kudus held teacher training, and the government should provide concrete examples of the implementation of differentiation.
