Abstract

Choosing learning media that suits students' needs is an important thing for teachers to pay attention to, especially in learning English so that students can be motivated to learn English language skills. In this research, the researcher wanted to examine the use of English songs in to enhancing student learning motivation in learning English. The aims of this research were: 1) the implementation of English song to enhance students’ motivation in learning English for elementary students, 2) the benefits and the drawbacks of the use of English song to enhance students’ motivation. The researcher used qualitative descriptive method as the research methodology and instruments of this research are observation, interview, and documentation. This research was conducted at MI NU MU precisely at fifth class. The participants of this research were the deputy head of curriculum of MI NU MU, the English teacher of fifth class and six students of fifth class. The triangulation technique is used by researchers to test the validity and reliability of research data, those are triangulation of data and methodological triangulation. The results of this research were: In MI NU MU, the song was implemented as the learning media in English teaching and learning. This aimed at enhancing students learning motivation and boosting student enthusiasm in elementary school, especially in the English teaching and learning process. The benefits of using English songs are a) Enhancing Students’ Motivation in Learning English, b) Effective Ways to Learning English, c) Improving Students’ English Skills, d) Increasing Students’ Interest in Learning English, e) Increasing Students’ Vocabulary Mastery. Meanwhile, the drawbacks of using English song were a) Differences in Students' Learning Motivation and Abilities, b) Students’ Difficulties in Pronunciation and Writing Skills, c) Inappropriate Placement and Limited English Learning Hours
