Abstract

English is an international language which is needed by all people over the world. One of the English skills is speaking. It is one of productive skills to express ideas appropriately for effective oral communication. Because of limited time in this COVID-19 pandemic situation, English learning process has been done on online learning environment. The researcher conducted a research of exploring the effect of presentation method on e-learning environment towards students’ speaking proficiency at MAN 1 Kudus. This research aimed to know 1) the quality of presentation method on e-learning environment at MAN 1 Kudus; 2) the quality of students’ speaking proficiency at MAN 1 Kudus; and 3) the significant and positive effects of presentation method on e-learning environment towards students’ speaking proficiency at MAN 1 Kudus. This was field research which used quantitative research. This research was conducted with a true experimental research design to search the effect of a variable on another variable. One of its types was pre-test-post-test control group design. The researcher used simple random sampling technique. The researcher chose 15 students of XI MIPA 3 class as an experimental class and 15 students of XI MIPA 4 class a controlled class. The data were collected by conducting pre-test, implementing presentation method and assessing the students’ performances, post-test, and distributing the questionnaire. The quantitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic while the questionnaire became supporting data in this study. The research findings showed that: 1) The quality of presentation method on e-learning environment at MAN 1 Kudus is good. It is proved by the results of statictic analysis by using One Sample T-Test. Sig. 2-tailed of XI MIPA 3 Students’ presentations was 0,000 < α (0,05). It showed that mean scores of presentation method on e-learning environment at MAN 1 Kudus were ≠ 80. 2) The quality of students’ speaking proficiency at MAN 1 Kudus was high. The results of using Simple Paired T-Test that sig. 2 tailed of experimental and controlled classes was 0,000 < α (0,05). It showed that there is a difference between post-test of experimental class and post-test from controlled class with teaching method. 3) Presentation method on e-learning environment has significant and positive effect towards students’ speaking proficiency at MAN 1 Kudus. The researcher used Simple Regression analysis to determine the effect of presentation method towards students’ speaking proficiency by using SPSS 16.0. The result showed that sign. is (0,017) < α (0.05). It stated that there was positive linear relationship between presentation method and speaking proficiency for XI MIPA 3 class at MAN 1 Kudus.
