Abstract

The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The data were analyzed using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory, namely looking for the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth contained in the song lyrics. It aims to find out the values of religious moderation contained in the lyrics of the song One Big Family by Maher Zain. The results of the research conducted by researchers to find the content of messages of peace and the values of religious moderation in the song One Big Family by Maher Zain, when linked in Roland Barthes' semiotic theory, show that the song One Big Family contains peace values. This can be seen from the arrangement of sentences, language, and diction contained in the lyrics of the song One Big Family. The messages of peace contained in the lyrics of the song include: The value of security contained in lyric I, the value of universalism contained in lyric II, the value of empathy contained in lyric III, and the value of compassion contained in lyric IV. Maher Zain does not only focus on messages of peace, but also shows that there is a characteristics of Wasathiyah Islam, there are 10 important points including: tawassuth (taking the middle way), tawazun (balanced), i'tidal (straight and firm), tasamuh (tolerance), musawwah (non-discriminatory egalitarian), syura (deliberation), islah (reform), aulawiyyah (priority-first), tathawwur wa ibtikar (dynamic, creative, and innovative), and tahadlur (civilized). The perspective and practice of moderation in religion are the global needs of the world community. Each religion has a teaching tendency that refers to the same point, there are choosing the middle way and not exaggerating. That is why we need religious moderation as a solution, religious moderation can be an important key to create a religious life that is harmonious, peaceful, and emphasizes balance, in personal life, family, community, and in the life of fellow human beings as a whole. From this song, it is hoped that everyone is not at war with and fight each other. Especially in Indonesia, where political, religious, and ethnic issues are very intense in Indonesia, and throughout the world in general.
