Abstract
Language and culture are inseparable and connected. Language is a means of cultural communication. Truth, the manifestations of cultural reality, and symbols of culture as well not a sentence. The inseparability of language and culture has led researchers in different cultural contexts to research in the field of English language teaching. How culture is portrayed in English textbooks is one of the research studies concerning culture content. So, these research objectives are to investigate cultural categories represented in Bahasa Inggris’ book and the relevance of cultural categories in Bahasa Inggris’ book and cultural values in the 2013 curriculum part 11-15. The research method is descriptive qualitative research. Qualitative research methods are called new methods due to their recent popularity. The descriptive method examines the status of a human group, an object, a set of conditions, a system of thought, or a class of events in the present. The analysis is an investigating event (essay, deed, etc.) to find out the true situation (causes, problems, and so on) or solving a problem starting with an assumption of its truth. This concentration additionally adopts the structure of Cortazzi and Jin (1999). The result of the research is that the material in “Bahasa Inggris Revisi 2017” for the tenth graders’ sections 11-15 is predominantly presented by Source Culture. (1) It seemed a few times (66.3%). (2) The resulting worldwide culture is found on different occasions (18.6%), and (3) the last is the objective culture, which appears to be on different occasions (15.1%). The assortment of texts in this book is changed by the command of the essential capabilities in the 2013 educational plan for tenth graders. But, further researchers are suggested can explore more deeply the culture contained in The English Textbook so that the data obtained is of higher quality.
