Abstract

One of the English language skills that many consider difficult for some EFL Learners is listening skills. Therefore choosing suitable media will help EFL learners in learning listening skills. This research will discuss one of the ICT-based learning media in improving listening skills, namely YouTube. The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of EFL Learners using the Islamic MercifulServant YouTube channel on listening skills. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Research data were obtained from preliminary research tests and interviews. The subjects of this study were five students from an English language education study program at an Islamic-based university. The results obtained from this research are the participants' positive perceptions of using the YouTube channel to improve listening skills. Based on a comparison of the results of the preliminary research test with the results of the interviews, it was found that there was an increase in the listening skill level of the three participants. From five participants, three increased CEFR levels, and the other two had no increase so far. Several factors were also found that made it difficult for participants to learn listening skills. Some of the factors mentioned by the participants in this study included a lack of vocabulary mastery, different accents, etc. Therefore, this research is expected to become one of the learning media that can improve the listening skills of EFL learners. In addition, EFL Learners should practice their listening skills frequently for better results.
