Abstract

The use of English exercise books can be used to improve vocabulary skills because it helps students improve language skills. Through vocabulary exercises students can concentrate on certain words. For vocabulary learning, students need various activities and exercises. In conducting this research, the researcher used library research to analyze the contents of Pathway to English an English textbooks. The type of research method used was descriptive qualitative research. Literature research is a non-hypothetical research, so this study only collects data, analyzes it, then draws conclusions based on the data. The researcher found that in the Pathway to English textbook there were discussions about, (1) The types of vocabulary found in Pathway to English textbooks are word class, and family word. (2) The types of vocabulary exercises contained in the Pathway Textbook to English are multiple-choice, true or false, matching questions, short answers, and fill in the blank. (3) The researcher also found that Pathway to English is suitable for teaching vocabulary because its implementation fulfills the four components of Graves' Comprehensive Approach. It can be concluded that the Pathway to English textbook is feasible based on Graves' Comprehensive Approach. Therefore students can learn and develop their vocabulary with textbook guides to support their learning. Furthermore, the researcher also suggests for further research to continue research on vocabulary teaching with a more complete discussion. Because vocabulary practice is a broad and important discussion material in language learning.
