Abstract
The culture and position of the Pesantren on the one hand and the English language which has a certain cultural content on the other, have the potential to cause a variety of problems in the teaching and learning process. The purpose of this research is to determine the teaching of English from a social and cultural perspectives in the Pesantren Qudsiyyah Putri, as well as the experiences and problems encoutered by teachers and students. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were the headmaster of English program, all of the English teachers, and six students of different grades. Data was gathered through interviews, observation, and documentation techniques. According to the findings of this study, the majority of respondents indicated that the teaching of English in the Pesantren Qudsiyyah Putri was seen through the learning program, teaching techniques, teaching media, and evaluation and assessment systems based on the social and cultural backgrounds of the pesantren. Furthermore, students are pleased with the various techniques and learning media employed, such as games, sholawat tenses, watching movies, and so on. Several difficulties were encountered by teachers and students during the process, including the difficulty in incorporating islamic values into learning material. As a result, teachers should broaden their horizons, collect creative ideas, and practice creativity.
