Abstract
English is an international language which is needed by all people in the world. Vocabulary is one of important component in learninng english. It is a basic to comunicate through written and spoken interraction. The researcher conducted a research of exploring The Effectiveness of Words Matching Game On Students’ Vocabulary At The Seventh Grade Of Mts Nu Miftahul Ma’arif Kaliwungu This research aimed to know 1) the quality of students’ vocabulary at seventh grade of MTs NU Miftahul Ma’arif Kaliwungu; 2) the effectiveness of using words matching game towards students’ vocabulary at seventh grade of MTs NU Miftahul Ma’arif. The research was field research which used quantitative reserach. It was conducted with a true experimental research design to research the effect of a variable on another. The researcher used pre-test-post-test control group design. This research used simple random sampling technique. The researcher chose 15 students of VII A class as experimental class and 15 students of VII B class as controlled class. The data were collected by conducting pre-test, implementing words matching game, post-test, and distributing the questionnaire. The data analysis technique of this research used t-test while the questionnaire become supporting data in this research. The research finding showed that: 1) The quality of students’ vocabulary at seventh grade of MTs NU Miftahul Ma’arif Kaliwungu was highest. It is proved by the results of descriptive statistic analysis. It showed that the mean scores of experimental class was high 90,40. Meanwhile the mean score of controlled class 85,07. It proved that there is a difference between post-test of experimental class and controlled class with the media. 2) words matching game has significant and positive effect towards students’ vocabulary at seventh grade of MTs NU Miftahul Ma’arif Kaliwungu. The researcher used t-test to determine the effectiveness of words matching game towards students’ vocabulary by using SPSS 16.0. the result showed that sign. 2 tailed (0,000) < α (0.05). it stated that there was positive effect between words matching game and students’ vocabulary for VII A class at MTs NU Miftahul Ma’arif Kaliwungu.
