Abstract

This research is based on the importance of learning English as an international language which is a challenge for some Islamic boarding schools such as PMH Putra Kajen Pati. PMH Putra responded to this challenge by modernising their education system through the collaboration of religious and general education. Thus, PMH Putra not only teaches Arabic but also teaches English. This research aims to describe the English curriculum implemented at PMH Putra. It also aims to find out the English learning process in implementing the curriculum as well as the advantages and disadvantages of using the curriculum. This research used field research with a qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects in this study were the LPBA Coordinator, the Head of PBA, an English Tutor, and 4 students of PMH Putra Kajen Margoyoso Pati. The data in this study were obtained through interview, observation, and documentation techniques. The results show that PMH Putra adopts the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) standard curriculum so that English language learning at PMH Putra has competency standards. In its implementation, tutors are free to determine the learning process that suits the learner's ability. The advantages of using the CEFR standard curriculum at PMH Putra are developing the quality of English Education and motivating learners and tutors. The disadvantages are the need for adaptation to the CEFR concept, difficulty in understanding the new curriculum, and the position of the English course as an extracurricular activity
