Abstract

Grammar learning is an important component in English language learning. However, conventional methods are often less effective in engaging students. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using comic strips in improving grammar mastery, specifically on present and past tenses for junior high school students. This research uses a quantitative research design with 60 eighth grade students as subjects. The research instruments are effectiveness questionnaires, pre-tests, and post-tests. Data analysis uses normality tests, homogeneity tests, t-tests, and N-Gain tests. The results show comic strips are highly effective (average score of 4.20). There are significant improvements between pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental class. The average post-test score exceeds the minimum passing grade (KKM). The N-Gain test shows a medium category of improvement. It can be concluded that comic strips are effective enough in enhancing grammar mastery.
