Abstract

This research discussing about the implementation of e-learning during pandemic COVID-19 since the issuance of new circular letter from The Ministry of Education and Culture No. 36962/ MPK.A/ 2020 on March 17th, 2020 about distance learning. In this study, the researcher refers to the implementation of e-learning through WhatsApp and Google Classroom. The objectives of this study are 1) To find out how to implement the e-learning system by WhatsApp and Google Classroom in English language teaching 2) To find out the obstacles in implementing e-learning by WhatsApp and Google Classroom in English language Teaching, and 3) To find out the solution in overcoming the obstacles when using WhatsApp and Google Classroom. This research is a qualitative research. The analysis obtained from search and compile data systematically. The data obtained comes from the results of observations, interviews and documentation. There were several informants who participated in this study, namely the principal, English teacher, and three students from one of the Indonesian Islamic Senior High school. The results showed that, 1) English language teaching through e-learning was carried out online using WhatsApp and Google Classroom applications, learning media made in the form of textbooks and digital media, the use of one sheet of lesson plans with online learning and evaluation. 2). The obstacles of e-learning implementation in the Indonesian Islamic High School viewed from user aspect, material aspect, and infrastructure aspect such as lack of IT skills, students' understanding, student control, internet access, the quality of technology used and any more. 3). The solutions to overcome the problems are training the ICT, provide motivation and innovative learning, doing home visits, provision of Wi-Fi for school and provides free internet quota to students and teachers, and purchase new electronic media.
