Abstract

Speaking ability is defined as ability which helps in effective communication. Having the ability to speak English in today's era has become a mandatory thing that must be mastered by the current generation, because there was a huge impact when mastering the ability to speak English from an early age. The application of the right method to improve students' speaking skills must also be considered properly. In this modern era, mastering international languages was very important. Plus existence of international languages such as English, making it easier for us to communicate with foreign people in the world, it was not surprising that the ability to speak English is already familiar and we meet many in the surrounding community, because they know the benefits of mastering the international language. This study was conducted to further examine the implementation of the Daily Conversation Method to improve students' speaking ability at MTs Darul Ulum Purwogondo. This study also discusses the process of applying the method, the problems encountered during the application of the method and the supporting factors in the application of the method. This research is a field research because researchers collect data in the field to answer these problems if viewed based on the data source. In this study the researchers used qualitative methods. The qualitative method itself is a very accurate method if it is used for research where the researchers go directly to the field to collect data. This research was conducted at MTs Darul Ulum Purwogondo. The research results process implementation Daily Conversation Method to improve students’ speaking ability at MTs Darul Ulum Purwogondo begin with giving the students materials, giving the students basic vocabularies and tenses, combining to be short conversation, practicing with their partner and starting to speak English. Based on the results Daily Conversation Method could improve students. Although there were still problems when implementing method as; difficulty in memorizing vocabulary, word pronunciation was still wrong, time was limited, there were still many passive students, students had difficulty forming sentences, students were still shy to express opinions and many students were not confident. Overcome these problems there were supporting factors such as; the willingness of students, support from teachers and parents, students always improve vocabulary, increase practice, teachers and tutors provide feedback, evaluations from teachers and tutors as well as controlling and monitoring carried out by the school.
