Abstract

Reading is a basic ability for humans. Through reading we can learn new things. Reading is also one of the skills in English, so a test is needed to test how far our reading skills are. However, in reality in the field there are still English reading tests that are not in accordance with the applicable curriculum. So, the purpose of this study was to find out the types of reading tests in English textbooks and to determine their suitability with the 2013 curriculum. This literature research uses a descriptive qualitative approach as a research design. The primary data source was obtained from the XI grade English textbook “Pathway to English” published by Erlangga publisher in 2017. And for the secondary data source, the researcher used a book entitled How to Teach for Exam by Sally Burgess and Katie Head, Telaah Buku Teks Bahasa Indonesia by Henry Guntur Tarigan and Djago Tarigan and a book by Masnur Muslich entitled Text Book Writing: Dasar-Dasar Pemahaman, Penulisan, dan Pemakaian Buku Teks. This research uses documentation study as a data collection technique. The data obtained are 56 reading tasks. From this study, the results obtained are: 1) there are 5 types of reading tasks in the English textbook "Pathway to English", the most widely used type is gapped texts with a total of 41 tasks and the least used is true or false (1 task). 2) Pathway to English textbooks meet all indicators contained in the 2013 curriculum.
