Abstract
The students of college attend the classrooms for each subject based on the curriculum. In the fact, learning does not always about inside the classroom. Even, that the college also provides extracurriculars. Which were casual activities carried out by college students. Students' motivations become a vital point in their learning process, it was the first thing that makes a stimulus that students act and start to learn something, especially in learning the English language. The activities of the English Club also can help the students to improve the students' ability in English. This study aimed to figure out the motives behind the student joining the English club, to find out the supporting factors and obstacles which the student got, and to find a link between students’ motivations and the English Club Program. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. It was a research that presents data in the form of a description and explanation of a phenomenon. The sources of data used in this research were, primary data resources from interviews with the students who are members of the English Club about their motivation for joining the club, then secondary data is obtained from the documentation data authentic to the English Club document. The data were collected using semi-structured interview techniques, observation, diary participants, and documents. The result of this study indicated that: (1) Students’ motivations in learning the English language led to their choice to join the English Club. Examples of their motivations including, in purposely wanting to increase their skill and encompass better insight into learning the English language, their craving to have more activities after classes, merely they need a partner to have English conversation, students’ aspiration to be a tutor, and students' desire to supply the deprivation practice in English language learning, their expectation for grows their social relation, and even simply they stimulated by their peers to register. (2) the students participated in the various programs of the English Club, and they acquired countless supporting parts from their surroundings. Including encouragement from the parent and family, backing up from peers, the benefit of the program itself, and the experiences of organization skills. Even though, the students also dealt with obstacles that occurred around the environment. The examples including there were unsupported partners, unobtained occasions for practice, incapable tutors, and the most highlighted by the member was an unrealized target of the program. (3) the students agreed that their motivation affected the English Club Program, and vice versa. The link between motivation and the EC program was related correlatively, which is the program of EC made by the functionaries with the objective to facilitate the member, in the same line the program of EC needs the students to participate and contribute to the activity.
