Abstract
Figurative language is language that has literary meaning. Forces the reader’s to understand the connotation rather than the denotation. Figurative language is used in literary work, which contains the researcher taste and purpose to make literary work more interesting for the readers. The aims of the research in the thesis are to find out the types of figurative language used in Harris J’s songs and to find out the most dominant figurative language in Harris J’s songs. In this research, the researcher used the content analysis method since the data are in the form of written or oral words. The techniques of collecting data were taken from the first album entitled "Salam" by Harris J, released on August 18th. The researcher did eight (8) steps to the techniques of analysis data, as follows: listening to the songs, reading the song lyrics, underlining the words that related in figurative language, identifying, classifying certain lyrics, reanalyzing the song lyrics, coding, and the last step is to make a table. The results of this research show that the researcher found the following figurative languages in the Harris J song lyrics: metaphor, simile, personification, hyperbole, and irony. And the most dominant figurative language that is used in some songs is “personification”.
