Abstract
One of the skills that need to be developed by students in learning English is reading skills. Reading is the basis as input to support other skills, where students require reading comprehension to have good reading skills. This research was conducted 1) to describe the implementation of teaching reading comprehension in recount text by using Numbered Heads Together technique at an Islamic Junior High School in Pati. 2) to describe the supporting factors faced in the implementation of teaching reading comprehension in recount text by using Numbered Heads Together technique at an Islamic Junior High School in Pati. 3) to describe the inhibiting factors faced in the implementation of teaching reading comprehension in recount text by using Numbered Heads Together technique at an Islamic Junior High School in Pati. This research is a type of field research with a qualitative descriptive approach. The respondents in this research were the principal at MTs Matholi'ul Huda Posono Gembong Pati, the English teacher, and Eighth-grade students of MTs Matholi'ul Huda Posono Gembong Pati, including five male and five female students. The researcher used observation, interview, and documentation techniques to collect data. The results of this research indicate that 1) the English teacher has implemented the Numbered Heads Together technique in teaching reading comprehension in recount text material by carrying out the preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. Furthermore, at the implementation stage, the teacher has completed four steps: Numbering, questioning, heads together (discussion), and answering. The implementation of the Numbered heads together technique is considered quite effective to be applied because the English teacher's steps follow the lesson plan. 2) The supporting factors in the implementation of the Numbered heads together technique include the completeness of facilities and infrastructure in learning, the ability of teachers to teach, and the enthusiastic attitude of students in participating in learning. 3) The inhibiting factors faced in the implementation of the Numbered heads together technique include the presence of students who lack self-awareness when the teacher explains the material, students who are less confident when presenting answers from the results of group discussions in front of the class, and limited time in teaching
