Abstract
The study is based on the framework that foreign language textbooks used by learners should include the types of culture used and their cultural values. However, there must be a balance between the source culture and the target culture or the other way around. The relevant education must also adapt to cultural beliefs. It is so that students studying other languages, especially English, can communicate their thoughts verbally while also understanding and applying the attitudes and cultural norms of the target language and the rest of the world. Based on this concern, the researcher did a content analysis on the most recent textbook with the most recent curriculum (a participated curriculum) from the government, “English for Nusantara.” It was done to achieve the research objectives, namely to (1) find out the types of culture, and (2) explain the cultural values contained in it. Researchers used the seventh-grade English for Nusantara textbook from the government-published participated curriculum in this investigation. The English for Nusantara textbook was analyzed using a qualitative method, often known as a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing a descriptive content analysis approach. The data was collected using the primary source (English for Nusantara) and secondary source (English in Mind) by reading consistently and thoroughly, spotting important details (cultural values) in each textbook material, and sorting the data (cultural values). Based on the content analysis using the above methods, the conclusions are as follows: (1) English for Nusantara textbook includes three types of cultures with the dominating source culture followed by international culture and target culture, and (2) the cultural values contained are in accordance with the learning outcomes of the participated curriculum, namely the six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile (faith and devotion to God Almighty, independence, cooperation, global diversity, critical, and creativity).
