Abstract
The condition of our country has been very concerning since then until now. There are still many intolerance cases and radical actions occur in this country, which often make religion as the reason behind these acts. For instance, there is the case of bombing attacks at three churches in Surabaya and many other cases. These conditions may threaten the unity of this country. One of the efforts to prevent intolerance cases and radical action is through the internalization of Islamic moderation values to the younger generations. To internalize Islamic moderation values can be done through various sectors, one of them is through the education sector. It can be done in the teaching and learning process through various subjects, one of them is English.This research aims to describe in detail the process of instilling Islamic Moderation Values in English Teaching. The researcher also examines the obstacles faced by the English teacher in instilling Islamic moderation values and its solutions. This research employs the qualitative approach. Data collection is conducted by observation, interview, and documentation. Data analysis gained by various steps, including data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The subjects of this study are the English teachers and the tenth graders of SMK N 1 Kedung. The findings reveal that the English teachers of SMK N 1 Kedung have internalized Islamic moderation values in English teaching. The implementation is internalized through verbal stimulation (reminder and advice), English material, teaching method, teachers’ behavior, and task giving. The values of Islamic moderation that appeared are tolerance, discussion, justice, and dynamic, creative, and innovative. The obstacles faced by the English teacher are the students’ character and the limited English material containing Islamic moderation values. To deal with the obstacles, the English teachers have some solutions. The first is the teachers keep motivating the students to be more serious and active in the teaching and learning process and the teacher should be patient in guiding the students because it is their roles as teachers. To deal with the limited English material which can be used to internalize the values of Islamic moderation, the teacher can explore the material through the internet and should be creative
