Abstract
Character education values are very important in education. In the process of teaching and learning process, it should be combined with character education in textbooks. So, this study discussed an analysis of character education values formulated by the Ministry of National Education (Kemendiknas) in the English textbook for junior high school for ninth-grade students published by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud). The textbook is entitled Bahasa Inggris: Think Globally Act Locally. This study aimed to describe the character education which is presented in the textbook materials and explain the integration of character education. This study used the qualitative research method using content analysis. The data was collected using documentation. The researcher conducted the documentation from an English textbook. This study followed the content analysis procedure proposed by Krippendorff. Data analysis was done through the following steps: utilizing, sampling, recording/coding, reducing, inferring, and narrating. The result showed that there were two points of findings in this study. First, there are 18 character education values in the English textbook "Bahasa Inggris Think Globally Act Locally" were found in the text, pictures, and task instruction from this English textbook. The character education values found are religiousness, honesty, tolerance, discipline, perseverance, creativity, independence, democracy, curiosity, nationalism, patriotism, appreciation, friendship/communication, love of peace, reading interest, environmental awareness, social care, and responsibility. Second, the integration of character education that is found in the texts consists of two integration, namely directly and indirectly. The direct integration of character with the percentage (19.3%) and indirect integration of characters has (80.7%). This result showed that the integrating technique of characters indirectly is more dominant in this textbook. It showed that the author seemed to pay attention to the cognitive and affective aspects of students. At this point, students should be able to think critically and understand the implead meaning.
