Abstract

This research was conducted based on preliminary research, namely the students’ lack of vocabulary mastery and the teacher’s method, which was less effective in learning English vocabulary. Implementation of English video song lyrics makes the learning process more active. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using English video song lyrics to develop students’ vocabulary mastery at Islamic Junior High School SS. This research was field research using a quantitative research method. This research was conducted with a pre-experimental design to look for the effect of a variable on other variables. One type is the one-group pretest-posttest design. The researcher used a cluster random sampling technique to determine the sample. The researcher chose 40 students of class eighth grade C as the experimental class. Data was collected by conducting a pre-test, applying English video song lyrics, assessing student performance, post-test and distributing questionnaires after the test. The research showed that using English video song lyrics effectively developed students’ vocabulary mastery at Islamic Junior High School SS. Based on evidence from the statistical analysis results using a paired t-test sample. The significance of 2-tailed English video song lyrics for developing students’ vocabulary mastery was 0,000 < 0,000. In addition, the mean pretest score was 65,25, while the mean post-test score was 83,87. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis showed a significant difference between students, pretest scores before and after using English video song lyrics for eighth grade C of Islamic Junior High School SS. Then, the questionnaire results showed that the use of English video song lyrics positively affected students’ vocabulary mastery at Islamic Junior High School SS. The researcher used descriptive statistics to calculate students’ response scores using English video song lyrics on developing students’ vocabulary mastery using SPSS 29.0. The total score of 40 for eighth grade students of Islamic Junior High School SS was 3.562, consisting of 20 lists of questions and statements. The results showed that the mean score of the questionnaire distribution was 89,05, including the interval category 89 – 103, which was a very high category.
