Abstract

The teacher’s strategy in teaching reading comprehension and improving reading skills is very important for students. The ability to read is one of the important skills in mastering English. It is also important to understand both long and short reading texts. However, in the process of learning reading skills, students face many difficulties that can hinder the development of their reading skills. In this study, researchers examined student’s reading difficulties at MTs NU Banat Kudus. The aims of this study were: (1) to find out the teacher’s strategies in improving students’ reading skills. (2) to find out the teacher’s strategy is in teaching Reading Comprehension. This is a type of research is descriptive qualitative using observation, interviews, and documentation as instruments data collection techniques, the observation involved classrooms and students from class 8A until 8D as well as English teacher. In the interviews, involving several students totaling 8 out of 2 students in each class, namely by means of written interviews and 1 English teacher, namely by oral or direct interviews. From this research it can be seen that the teacher’s strategy for improving students’ reading skills and teaching Reading Comprehension were: a) by display question on PowerPoint slides, b) by display on PowerPoint vocab underlined, c) by display text from internet on PowerPoint, d) by used images and video
